Tile Calcium Removal

Pools can be a lot of fun, but they can also require more than routine maintenance to keep them looking beautiful. Over time, the chemicals in your pool and water evaporation cause calcium scale on the water line and fountain overflows. Unfortunately, calcium scale gets worse the longer you leave it untreated. It can cause damage to your pool and pool equipment. To protect your pool this calcium buildup must be periodically removed from pool tiles and fountain overflows. Calcium buildup can irritate the eyes and skin of your pool guests.
Pool’n Spa Center offers a Pool Tile Cleaning service using Glass Bead Blasting to restore your pool tile and other surface so they look new again. Glass Bead Blasting can be used on all of the following surfaces.
  • POOLS, SPAS & FOUNTAINS
  • REAL & ARTIFICIAL ROCK
  • COPING & BRICK
  • PEBBLE FINISHES
  • FLAGSTONE
  • GLASS TILE

What is Glass Bead Blasting?

Glass bead blasting or mineral blasting is a shot blast process which removes calcium deposits by applying fine glass beads (or mineral) to a low air pressure stream which gently removes deposits. When done properly calcium can be removed without damaging the surface. It is used to clean deposits from Pebble Tec, stone and many other surfaces. It also removes embedded algae and brightens tile grout. Glass bead blasting is a safe and effective technique to completely remove the calcium and scale deposits from your back-yard attraction. The results are far better than using harsh acids and chemicals which take more time and money to remove the scale.
Glass beads are manufactured from lead-free, soda lime-type glass, containing no free silica that is made into preformed ball shapes. Glass beads produce a much smoother and brighter finish than angular medias. Glass bead blasting produces a clean, bright, satin finish, without damage to pebble, stone, porcelain or glass tiles. Chemically inert and environmentally friendly, glass bead blasting is an effective method for removing calcium.

How Often Should I Have My Pool Tile Cleaned?

It is a good idea to clean your tile every 2-3 years to help reduce the build up on your tile. The longer the calcium builds up the harder it is for us to get off.
This increases the risk of burning your tile when we remove the line. If we have to spend a prolonged amount of time in one area the tile becomes discolored and loses its detail or finish.
